From the dawn of civilisation people have needed to communicate. The story of the evolution from symbols on cave walls to the highly sophisticated electronic systems of today is not only fascinating, but relevant, now maybe more than in the past. Writing and printing as we knew them until a few years ago are fast being superseded by the computer, and are themselves becoming part of history. It has also been calculated that, within two generations, handwriting and printing not reliant upon an electronic system could become obsolete. Although this museum does not hold to that opinion. As a result of this and subsequent lowering standards, writing has had a greater emphasis within the National Curriculum. |
